About

Alex is a non-partisan candidate grounded in the progressive and practical values of Takoma Park and his smalltown roots. He lives in Ward 3’s Pinecrest neighborhood with his wife Sondra and their dog, Frankie. Alex and Sondra are high school sweethearts from Vermont and made Takoma Park their home due to its diverse, vibrant, walkable, and green community. They are active gardeners and can occasionally be seen around town in their classic Chevy pickup.

Alex works in the field of international development finance and is a globally recognized thought leader on issues of global connectivity, digital infrastructure and bridging the digital divide. He has evaluated, negotiated and secured approval for billions of dollars in large infrastructure financing globally, with an eye to balancing commercial viability, construction and operational risks, and sustainable impact. With over a decade of public service, his career has touched on projects financing affordable housing, financial institution strengthening, microfinance, small and medium enterprise lending, transportation, energy efficiency, clean energy generation and distribution modernization, impact investing and public-private partnerships. He has collaborated with governments, institutional partners, community leaders, village elders, and the private sector, often providing policy advice at the highest levels, assembling and leading diverse teams, managing diligence activities and external consultants, planning conferences and events, and mobilizing billions in mission-driven private and public capital. Early in his career he worked for leading environmental management consulting firm Tetra Tech Inc. and as a laborer for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control sites in Vermont.

Alex prefers learning about issues in hands-on environments, site visits or in front porch conversations. He has a B.A. in Spanish from Saint Michael’s College and an M.A. in international commerce and international development from the University of Kentucky. His past volunteer work includes supporting the inaugural campaigns of Bernie Sanders for U.S. Senate and Chris Pappas for U.S. Congress.*
